After a year of protests, and although Campaign Manager Lindsey Wright says they can’t officially take credit for it, PETA will be celebrating the closing of Carrboro’s KFC.

Calls to KFC cooperate were not returned, and a man at the East Main Street location, who chose to only identified himself as part of the cleaning crew, says the location has been closed since Sunday. In a press release, PETA claimed KFC closed due to lack of business and that the company ignored recommendations made by members of its own advisory panel that called for animal welfare improvements.

Local PETA members will celebrate the closure with a Champaign-style toast.

Wright says PETA is looking forward to a year without protesting the Carrboro location. The celebration takes place at 1 p.m.
