Top QB-prospect Everett Golston became UNC’s first 2011 commitment with an announcement made from Myrtle Beach High School Friday afternoon.

The talented junior is regarded as a four-star recruit, according to Scout.com. He has already started for three years and has led his team to a 39-4 overall record in that stretch.

In his junior season, Golson earned First-Team All-State honors as he completed 63 percent of his passes for over 3,500 yards. He threw 47 touchdowns and only three interceptions.

Golson picked the Tar Heels over Clemson, East Carolina, Duke, Stanford, Michigan and Virginia Tech, all of which he was also considering. Golson can officially sign with North Carolina in February 2011.

The 5-foot-11, 161 pound quarterback is also expected to play basketball for UNC.

The Tar Heels will return their starting quarterback T.J. Yates for his senior season in 2010. His backups are sophomore Braden Hanson and Brynn Renner, who red-shirted as a true freshman this season and was the nations No. 3 quarterback prospect in 2009.
