Tough Stretch Continues As Hokies Edge Heels

Sloppy play led to another Carolina loss. Virginia Tech beat UNC 74-70 last night.

Head coach Roy Williams says this is one of the toughest stretches he’s ever been a part of.

Carolina had almost double the amount of turnovers as the Hokies. The Heels had a four-point lead at one point in the game and even led at halftime.

Virginia Tech stretched out a lead of their own in the second half. Each time Carolina got close to retaking the momentum an errant pass or a poor shot selection would cause a turnover or a block.

Will Graves shot a 3-pointer with 20 seconds left that looked like it would pull the Tar Heels within one point. But somehow it rimmed out. Williams says that’s just how it goes.

Ed Davis led Carolina with 15 points and John Henson chipped in a career-high 14. The loss, however, was Carolina’s fifth in six games. They’re now 13-9 on the season and 2-5 in the ACC. That puts Carolina near the bottom of the ACC, just slightly ahead of NC State and Miami.
