Thorp Fields UNC Student Questions

In his Q&A session with students Tuesday, UNC Chancellor Holden Thorp was crystal clear that merit-based aid would be kept safe, even in tough economic times.

For most other areas, however, Thorp emphasized that changes needed to be made, and they might not be painless.  One of the major topics the chancellor addressed was a tuition increase, with the same percentage added for in-state and out-of-state students.  While the percentage is identical for both groups, the individual dollar figure will be higher for students from outside the state.

Chancellor Thorp also addressed the university’s strained relationship recently with the Greek system, and sent a message to members of all fraternities and sororities that, primarily, they are at UNC to learn.

Among those in attendance was student body President Jasmin Jones.  The event was hosted by the Chancellor’s Office and the Division of Student Affairs, and was open to the public.
