Chapel Hill Public Works will close Hillsborough Street between Martin Luther King Junior Boulevard and Rosemary Street for a roadway project to improve pedestrian safety.

Brian Litchfield, assistant director for Chapel Hill transit, says the road work will cause bus service to be detoured.

The work involves replacement of 12 driveway aprons on the west side of the street in order to improve pedestrian flow. Along with drainage improvements that’s aimed at eliminating standing water the road work is scheduled to last about two weeks.  The use of Hillsborough Street will be restricted to residents, guest and those doing business within the construction zone.

Construction begins one week from today.
